Where Dallas Feeds Dallas Is Focusing Its Efforts
Because of the federal shutdown, SNAP benefits have been paused for November, leaving thousands of North Texas families without their primary food assistance.
According to NBC 5 Investigates, more than 721,000 North Texans rely on SNAP, and areas in South Dallas have been hit hardest where food insecurity was already high.
In the DFW area, the top two ZIP codes where SNAP recipients live are 75216 and 75217, in South Central and Southeast Dallas. More than 31,000 residents in these two ZIP codes rely on SNAP and over half (≈16,000) are children who depend on monthly benefits for food.
We’re using the data below to target food drives, partner with local pantries, and direct donations to the neighborhoods that need them most.
This data was provided by Texas Health and Human Services to NBC 5 Investigates through an open records request. Data provided was last updated August 2025 showing the number of SNAP recipients broken down by ZIP codes in North Texas.
